The Polskadots are a Cork based band who blend musical styles from all corners of the world. Formed in 2005 they were soon playing in venues such as the Tikki Lounge, Arthaven Crosshavan and the Sine. They went on to open The Baltimore Fiddle Fair and were invited to play at last year's Dunlaoghaire world music Festival where they were joined by Clair Anne Lynch of North Cregg on vocals and fiddle.
Led by the energetic and highly accomplished Marja Tuhkanen on violin from Finland they cover a wide variety of tunes and songs from Scandinavia South America, Russia and Eastern Europe.
They have recently recruited another Dot, accordionist and singer, Sirpa Sirja from Finland who replaces their previous box player, Piia.
George from Georgia on mandolin does some mean tangos on his mando blaster, while Cat O Hora plays Violin, drums and sings some very sweet and soulful songs from Macedonia and Romania. Eileen Healy provides strong rhythmic accompaniment on guitar, with an occasional song and backing vocals.
The Polskadots have recently reformed after a long spell and have been rehearsing new material from Finland, Bulgaria and Romania.
