Cormac O Caoimh is playing the Roundy November 25th . His first full headline gig in nearly 2 years, Cormac will be debuting new songs from his forthcoming cd. Cormac has been recording for a over a year with Art O Laoire, who will be joining him on stage for what should be a special gig. The material is quiete but you can also expect some livelier numbers from previous releases (most notably “Start a Spark”)
Cormac O Caoimh is a singer-songwriter from Cork and ex singer-songwriter of The Citadels who counted Tom Robinson (War Babies/BBC) and Ron Sexsmith among their admirers. The Citadels released the “Shadow of my Northern Star” EP in 1999, followed by the critically acclaimed (but commercial failure) “Letting Go, Holding On” cd in 2003 and bowed out with the “Lovelight” EP in 2006. Cormac released his debut solo cd “Start a Spark” in 2007.
Cormac played three gigs at London Calling festival in 2006, sharing the stage with, among others, Delorentos. He has supported Damien Rice (in the Paradiso, Amsterdam), Declan O Rourke, Josh Rouse, Mark Geary, Nick Kelly, Julie Feeney, Ger Wolfe, Freddie White, Mick Hanley, Miles Hunt, Tir na Nog and Damien Dempsey to name but a few. He also ventured further afield playing headlining gigs and slots in Edinburgh, London and New York. In March 2007 he performed at the Canadian Music Week Festival in Toronto before taking a break from gigging to concentrate on recording.
“More than your typical singer-songwriter, O Caoimh mixes pop sensibility with finely tuned song writing wrapping it all up in his soft melodic confidence and sharp lyrical commentary”

“Corkman O Caoimh manages to avoid several of the pitfalls one would normally assocate with Irish singer-songwriters on his debut solo record. For much of the album, he sounds more like an indie-pop artist than an acoustic troubadour. ‘Deep Sea Diving has a light dreamy melody reminiscent of The Sundays, while the sweet boy-girl interplay of ‘Ghosts’ calls to mind Yo La Tengo and The Delgados.”

'The Citadels' were a terrific band from Cork(Ireland) ; sadly they are no more.
Luckily, we have this new solo album from the Citadels front man. Admirers of Prefab Sprout , Roddy Frame, or Damien Rice will likely devour this record. Cormac's lyrics are whip-smart,and his easy-going vocal style grabs the attention. From the punchy title track, all the way to the wonderful closing duet ('If You Feel') this record is a cut above, and deserves to be widely heard.
