The most promising act in Ireland today, and recently signed to EMI records, Mick Flannery has astounded audiences wherever he’s played. His debut album “Evening Train” weaves a continuous narrative, its 11 songs establishing a vivid word painting of two brothers, card playing in a bar, a girl, gambling debts misplaced jealousy and a shooting.
The atmosphere Flannery conjures up on “Evening Train” is moody and edgy; the kind of image with which Tom Waits fans will be more than familiar.
Mick Flannery recently won two categories in The International Songwriting Competition, www.songwritingcompetition.com that is based in Nashville and accepts entries from all over the world.
Some of the judges included Tom Waits, Monte Lipman (President Universal Records), Loretta Lynn, Joss Stone and Macy Gray. Mick Flannery won the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category for “In the Gutter” and won Best Original Lyrics for “The Tender” both which feature on “Evening Train”.
“Mick is a songwriter of the first order...His voice is pained, gravely, and powerful. Recorded or live, it carries through and stops you in your tracks”
Urban Folk, New York.
